Crop Services Scotland Wins UK Contractor of the Year at the Farmers Weekly Awards 2025

Published: October 10, 2025

Crop Services Scotland has been named UK Contractor of the Year at the prestigious Farmers Weekly Awards 2025, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The event, attended by more than 1,200 of the UK’s leading figures in agriculture – celebrates innovation, dedication, and excellence across the farming industry.

Speaking after the ceremony, Douglas Stephen, Director of Crop Services Scotland, described the win as “a great accolade” and paid tribute to the team and customers who made it possible.

“We were honoured to stand in front of 1,200 movers and shakers of the agricultural industry and accept the award on behalf of the Crop Services team – and all of our customers,” said Douglas.

Douglas highlighted that agricultural contracting is an increasingly vital part of modern farming.

“Contracting is such a diverse industry, and contractors play a vital role in these challenging times. The sector needs all the support it can get, and by working together with farmers and other contractors, we can all stand united in these difficult times.”

He also emphasised the economic and technological challenges faced by farmers today – and how contracting offers a practical solution.

“One piece of kit that does everything, or multiple pieces of kit these days, can cost a lot of money – combines are heading towards a million pounds, and sprayers that used to start with a two now start with a three. Not everyone can justify that investment, and that’s where contractors like us can really make a difference.”

Behind every machine, however, Douglas was keen to stress that it’s the people who make Crop Services Scotland what it is.

“Our success revolves around the team we employ – they make it work for all of our customers. I can’t say enough about the quality of the people we have working with us.”

He also acknowledged the crucial role of the company’s loyal customer base:

“Our customers keep us in business. If it wasn’t for such a loyal and hardworking customer base, none of us would have jobs. It’s a major team effort across the industry.”

The win marks a major milestone for Crop Services Scotland and for the wider Borders agricultural community, reflecting the strength, skill, and dedication found across the region’s farming sector.
